Steven Heydemann, senior adviser for Middle East Initiatives at USIP and an adjunct professor at Georgetown, suggests broadening U.S. engagement with the Syrian opposition by establishing a more serious framework for how the international community can support them and how those arming the Free Syrian Army - namely Saudi Arabia and Qatar - can better coordinate their efforts.
