Video Description

The Kubotan (sometimes erroneously spelled as Kubaton or Kobutan) self-defense keychain is a close-quarter self-defense weapon developed by Soke Kubota Takayuki. It is essentially a derivation of the yawara (柔?) stick, usually 5.5 inches (14 cm) long and 0.56 inch (1.5 cm) in diameter, slightly thicker or the same size as a marker pen. Attached with a keyring for convenience and concealment, the Kubotan appears as an innocuous key fob to the untrained eye.

Kobotans are restricted (illegal) in Australia. You will face a serious weapons charge if you are caught carrying one in Australia, (Sheesh!) To substitute I carry a white board marker. They are cheap and disposable. They can be used in the same way as traditional kobotan but you can tell the police you used it for an office presentation etc.

Have you thought about adding a quick release to the keys attachment? With a quick release you could still have access while the keys are in your ignition.

I''m sorry but that's not a Kubotan. That is not a Kubotan design. The Kubotan was never made in orange. People need to stop calling knock offs Kubotans! Call it something else, perhaps an "Orange Knock Off Copy Of A Kubotan"!

Good point but muggers usually carry guns or knife and have somewhat experience in what they are doing or know what to expect, and sometimes doing what they want could sometimes be the best way to get out of it, because they dont always want to hurt you they just want something. I have been mugged several times in my past, but pepper spray is the best thing to use for a untrained civilian.

Jeff i am sick of this, i want to obide by the law but here in Australia they seem to get stupider and studiper, the knife laws here are a maze of confusion and its even worse when it comes to carrying them. And now i just read that kubotans under six inches are Illegeal ( i know that what she said) because they are considered as " concealed weapons". youre so licky to have your laws on knife and gun carry to be so reasonable.

What fools those who scoff at this. With this "carrot" can really hurt a person, i train with this weapon called yawara or kubotan and the techniques that apply to it are really fast, effective and painful, you can break bones, knockout someone or even kill if you hit some dangerous points as nape or temple, but as always people who do not practice martial arts only talk for the sake of it. If do not believe me, look for yourself the kubotan techniques in youtube.

I have a close family friend who trains his women's self defence class in these and showed my father and I some stuff. They are for real, seriously effective if you know how to handle it and it's a very easy weapon to teach people to handle who might not be physically strong or have much other training Anyone who doubts what a kubotan can do should let his a female in his life buy one and put 4 weeks into learning how to handle it and hit them
And when you wake up tell me how much it didn't hurt
